LESSONS

Lydia believes that music lessons should be tailored to fit the student. She works with each individual's goals to come up with a plan that will push them to grow, while encouraging them to explore music that they love. She has a studio that ranges from 4 to 84 year olds.

Her lessons focus on finding a deep love and understanding of music, and on achieving the technical mastery needed to play beautifully and expressively.

Lydia teaches out of her home in North East, PA and is currently accepting students. Please get in touch to schedule a trial lesson!

WHAT HER STUDENTS ARE SAYING

"Lydia is a goal oriented teacher who knows how to have a good time. Every lesson with her feels purposeful and adaptable. She is an awesome player herself and is wonderful at sharing her talent with others. She has been the best thing to happen to my music by a long shot!"

"I've studied with a lot of great fiddlers, but I've progressed more in a few months with Lydia than in a year with anyone else. She's got a knack for picking tunes that make technique work seem (almost) painless. I love how she adds new tunes each week but keeps emphasizing the same skills so the music stays fresh, yet I don't get overwhelmed. Each lesson is productive, I know exactly what to practice when I get home, and Lydia finds a way to be encouraging no matter how much my fiddle squawks. If you have the option to work with her, I really can't think why you would choose to work with anyone else."

"I took violin lessons from Lydia Byard (Mercer) for three years. I really enjoyed my time with her. She is an excellent teacher. She is extremely proficient in violin, and what makes her a great teacher is her ability to work with her students and recognize their individual needs. Lydia is able to modify her teaching to fit each student. She is very encouraging and good at teaching techniques in a way that is engaging and fun. I learned a lot from Lydia, and she greatly encouraged me in my love of music."

"I am a professional guitar player that decided to take up the fiddle about four years ago. I felt that I wasn’t progressing on my own, so I started looking for a teacher on Thumbtack and found Lydia. She has helped me grow and always picks the correct tunes that work on certain fiddle techniques. I would highly recommend her as a violin/fiddle teacher."

My 11 year old daughter has been taking violin/fiddle lessons from Lydia. My daughter looks forward to going to Lydia's studio and learning. Lydia is professional, fun, and enthusiastic when teaching. She is the kind of teacher we were looking for and we're glad we found her.

Lydia is an excellent and enthusiastic teacher. I've been taking weekly lessons with her online. She really listens to what my goals are and has done and excellent job of finding exercises and tunes that combine to help me reach those goals. She is also observant of modifying my technique as we progress. I feel like I've learned more over a few months working with her than I did through years of lessons with others
